Some of y'all may be wandering who we are referring to by "our heroine". Well, She is a Woman of Noble Character. She is a Virtuous Woman. She is the woman as described in Proverbs 31. We started the Series on the Proverbs31 Woman on our Instagram Page some days ago. (Click here to see some of the other characteristics we have highlighted)
Now to our focus for today, Proverbs 31 : 16 “She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.” – This describes her business practice. She looks at a field and considers whether or not it will be a sensible buy. Because she manages it well, it produces a profit, and she uses it to move forward with another business endeavour. All that to say, she works hard, makes good investments, and reaps the profits. Not every wife and mom has to work a job, but there is something in all of us that wants to be industrious and use our talents. This scripture shows the benefit of working hard and smart.
One could argue that this is another example of her female entrepreneur skills and experience, I think it goes deeper than that.
The first part of this verse illustrates that she makes decisions carefully “she considers”. In other words, she does not make rash decisions. The next key to learning more about the Proverbs 31 woman is that she made the purchase “out of her earnings”. Most likely these earnings were from the sale of the linen garments mentioned in verse 24. Finally, “she plants a vineyard”. She does not restrict herself and her family to the bare necessities of life; she is able to enjoy some comforts, as well.
With deeper study of Proverbs 31:16, this verse shows me that while she may be an entrepreneur, she makes judicious decisions, is financially responsible and industrious. Would you agree or disagree? Let me know your thoughts! I’d love to hear from you!
